I started as an engineer and product developer, and then manager of research and engineering for product development at several corporations.

Today I have a role in the world of product development, not as a developer, but as an Executive and Leadership Coach. I’ve been able to integrate my development experience with my understanding of individual and organizational processes, to assist developers with enhancing the human interactions and communications aspects of their development work.

As a product developer, I quickly realized that other than the technological issues, there always were other challenges, generally non-technical, that slowed or otherwise detracted from our overall effort. These “other challenges” related to managerial and organizational processes and structures, and the interface with and between key staff. Sometimes these issues are amplified by cultural differences, physical locations, governmental involvement and security considerations.

Realizing that I needed to go deeper into understanding the psychological functioning of individuals and organizations, I returned to school earning a Ph.D. in Psychology. My dissertation research involved gaining a basic understanding of the mental attitudes and work processes of scientists who were working in industry and developing products.

This blend of psychology and product development allows me to be a “thought partner” and Coach for organizations, teams, and individuals who are engaged in product development.
